I stumbled upon a pretty neat, little upstarting company that sells De La Salle Green Archers-inspired t-shirts. Yup, the shirts look really hot (aside from the models, of course!).
However looking at the pics, the design became very familiar to me. I searched online and, bam…

The designs are knock-offs indeed. Damn, down to the “hole-less” O.
The Animo tees are very much like the Supermodel tees of House of Holland, which sells for £35 in London, New York, Paris, Singapore, and Tokyo.
Yeah, yeah, people will say “nobody can claim that slogan tees are theirs,” or “give the Pinoys some slack…at least they are doing good business.” But if you’re doing some “innovative” business venture, at least we shouldn’t step on other people’s patents, right?
I remember Bryanboy posted about another upstarting t-shirt company called Proud Race, with slogans like “Oh Well Rajo Laurel” and “Kiss Don’t Talk Borgy Manotoc.” And guess what? House of Holland found out about it and they almost sued Proud Race. Not a good way of starting a business, noh? Eventually, Proud Race clammed up, closed before they even produced the prototypes.
So yeah, don’t be gaya gaya Empress Maruja.

As a graphic designer, I am shocked by this.. Nakakairita naman.. Cmon guys! You’re like, frigging Lasallians for the empress’ sake! Kamusta naman, going around copying designs..
Bad, bad talaga.. I think i’ll go and spank Simon Atkins now..
(P.S: Goddess, alam kong ibabanat mo yung FAQ issue ko.. hahaha.. personal yun!..
)
[...] Basa pa, Mare! [...]
Even though I’m hardcore La Sallian, I disown whoever shanghaid this concept! Mon Dieu!!!
They should’ve just stuck to the Bench motifs and made more improvisations, ladida. Ya know, the LOVE KO LA SALLE t-shirts, stuff like that. Besides, all the cheesy rhyming… only the DLSU Student Council’s political bigwigs and candidates and wanna’beasts’ employ such… mediocrity.
Other than those… still… ANIMO!!!
Kung tagalog kaya?
Sa sobrang saya, mapaluha ka -Empress Maruja
Geez. I have to come back here after 2 blog hops. I found this… Yes! Even Iloilo has its own version. Check this:
Iloilo Version
WOW. That’s just… wow.
Oi vey.
even if it were an original idea, the whole thing still comes off as yucky. ewan, ang baduy lang ng dating talaga. and then we find out it’s a rip off.
(suka…)
They’re neat shirts. Remember those “Franky Says Relax” shirts in the ’80s. It’s all just a rehash of what was…House of Holland’s just being a big baby.
as a pseudo- fashion designer, hindi ko type ang nangongopya ng design ng may design. kakairita nga, wika ni itlog…
proud race is definitely around. cecille zamora of chuvaness happily endorses them and sells proud race’s t shirts. it’s sad she endorses fakes, she’s a fashion writer pa naman.
sayang naman…the models were hot. kaso super duper turn off yung design.
mga mang-uumit! lapastangan!
proud race yung nasa store for all seasons, owned by cecile zamora, writer for philstar
I have reason to believe na hindi ito patentable. Text over the Tees. The choice of color cant be patented. The use of font either.
Imagine, “BIG PINK FONT LETTERS”! What if mayroong isang company na nagpasimula ng “small black letters over tees” at isue naman ang HOUSE OF HOLLAND (kung ito man ang company), at ang rationale naman ay dahil kinopya ang design nila, with minimal modification: font size, color and message.
house of holland is way better than those knockoffs. though those lasalista isssss sooooo cute cant help but get one simon atkins. hehe
gggrr…
hahaha..
i think isagani x has a lot of point.
im not sure if HoH will win if they sued Proud Race for copyright patent whateveryoumaycallit issue.
a plain rhyming statement
big plain text
neon colors
i think as long as not exact words are used, wla naman sigurong issue dun.
c’mon all of you designers, admit naman natin na we are also getting new ideas from other designers and im sure we have some works na we cant say na puro sating nanggaling.
the animoism shirt is alright.
the iloilo shirt is alright.
the proud race shirt is alright.
soon il be having maybe a same “concept” as this and i know its alright.

SORRY DARLING
FOR DOUBLE POSTING
uy rhyming
i hope i wont get sued.
so yeah you blog randomly..and i think you just can’t accept the fact that these lasallian kids do well..so you’re trying to imply that HoH can also sue Topshop/man or even urban outfitters? do your research better! HoH also got the idea of their design from some famous 80’s shirt..in fashion it doesn’t matter who copied who, it’s who do better and present themselves the best! these lasallian kids will do big, they got potential..the way they market their shirts, fab ads and even the gorgeous pix! considering they’re just young students..try to explore their website and appreciate what they can do!
http://www.animoism.com
and pls for some who dropped comment, be sure you know what talking about..
Yeah, yeah. They’re just a bunch of brilliant kids! Tama naman talaga, even designers copy designs from other designers.
They are really fab, mind you.
Get a life, ha.
Empress Maruja!
Check out Animoism’s links. HoH is credited.
Check out Cecille Zamora’s blog. HoH did copy off some famous 80s designer.
Check out your pockets. Can you even afford HoH’s shirts?
Mga friends, tandaan: BITTERNESS IS NEXT TO OOGLINESS. Chever!
hey, empress MARUYA. arent ya bitter??? i got my animo shirt and i thnk its cool! i really dont beliv the best of designers even have their “original” ideas! cmon! dont make a crap out of nothing!
hahaha! this comment is so funny! clearly this empress maruja know nothing about what he/she’s saying.. i suggest you research good and you research harder.. next time, before being trashy, read up first.. and as you can see, the HoH site and even the proud race site is nakalink sa site nila..
so who’s bitter now! in the end, after all this dirty dirty fuzz, you end up oogly.. aww you poor thing
oh and these models are hot! i mean effective ha!
At the end of the day, that doesn’t erase the fact that the shirts are a bunch of knock-offs. If you like them, fine, buy them! I won’t, I’m not from La Salle, but I still have my say.
p.s. I hope they make a shirt that says “You’re so bad, Bryan Ilad.”
[...] After being delighted being mentioned by Ganns Deen as one of the top 10 blogs he looks forward to reading (pressureness!), nalokah naman ang lola niyo nang masaylalu niya ang mga nega comments from D’ Solid Animoism Friends Forever Fans Club. [...]
knock-off or not, ITS ONE UGLY CONCEPT!!! pwe…
To Hilds, Byatz and the other nobodies, this is maruja’s blog so he has all the right to his own opinions about anything under the sun. You guys coming here and telling him what and what not to say or do, shows you’re becoming overly defensive about this issue.
Those models are already sooo hot to be promoting shirts. You can make them wear white shirts and I’m sure people will still buy them. Why copy some other people’s idea?
They got hold of an idea, capitalized on it, and then became famous. Maruja’s just envious because she wasn’t able to think of such a bright idea. The mark of really great idea is one that is frequently talked about, not only by its admirers, but also its critics. So thanks to you Maruja, this shirt is getting more publicity. Oh and yeah, those Animoism shirts really rock.
Well, the kids did credit house of holland! It’s the first link in their links page, and they have a link in their homepage. I think what’s unique about them is that they used this idea for SCHOOL SPIRIT. And hey, everyone from topshop to zara has already copied the idea too… It’s no big deal! HoH knocked off Katharine Hamnett from the 90’s and the origins are from shirts from the 80’s.
And I have to say they did a really great job marketing the shirts! They even do their own photoshoots! Galeng!
DANG!!! HAHAHA! I am sooo glad I tagged you! Otherwise, I would have not known about this! Whatever happened to those creative intelligent mind of La Sallites? Hahahaha!!! No pun intended!
