Behind the Thriller in Cebu

30 07 2007

By now, you have probably watched (again and again) the country’s latest YouTube phenomenon after Alyssa Alano’s mispronunciation of the song “Kiss Me.”

Over a million views just a week after its upload, the video featuring Cebuano prisoners dancing to “Thriller” has become a worldwide hit. It has not only been featured in the local news, but also in BBC, CNN, and other international news agencies.

But what is it anyway? Is it a form of punishment? A way to divert from gang wars? Or simply a prison version of a recess?

Al Jazeera English reports after the jump.

Bunny Man Hunt #12 Winner

30 07 2007

Let us congratulate this week’s winner of the Bunny Man Hunt as she walks the stage!

The hot yet elusive Bunny Man was found in an old, old entry entitled, “The Day Before My Birthday: 5 Years Ago,” a look back on a chapter called “love life” (and why I’m not that giddy on my birthday).

The reader who first found the hot guy in a bunny suit was no other than our exiled aristocrat, Jon Halcyon von Rothschild.  He writes a personal blog where he shows his love for fashion, TV, movies, do-it-yourself, basically anything fabulous.  It’s worth the read, so check it out now by clicking on the icon at the sidebar!

The Empress also congratulates our this week’s first runner-up, the Himalayan Goddess, who claims that Kelly Rowland’s–and now Beyonce Knowles’–stage falls were all part of karma.  Remember that if for any reason our Bunny Man Hunt winner cannot fulfill her duties, the first runner-up will take her place.

Next in line is this week’s second runner-up Q the Conqueror, who recently posts his review about the movies that depicts his alma mater Pisay (or Philippine Science High School).

We would also like to congratulate our “thank you girls” for being such a good sport…

* First to leave a comment wins!

The winner will get a special link in my sidebar.

Here are the clues in finding the man in a bunny costume:

1)  It’s an old old entry.

Music Break: “Ta Douleur” by Camille

26 07 2007

I have to deviate to my usual weekly serving of Pinoy music, at least just for now.

I was listening to my customized Yahoo! music station and it played this really catchy French song entitled “Ta Douleur” (Your Pain) by Camille. When I first heard it, the song reminded me of the days when Eat Bulaga used to have those “human orchestra” competitions. Once I got over that, I began appreciating its creativity and the melody.

The gist of the song is “I know you are suffering, but trust me; I can take away your pain.” With that, I recommend that you gotta listen to it as well. If you can speak French, or pretend to speak French like moi, try singing along after the jump!

French Version of Survivor in Palawan

25 07 2007

Why be excited about Survivor: China…

If we could get more excited about this!

The seventh season of Koh Lanta, the French version of Survivor, had its contestants stranded on the remotest islands of Palawan. It began broadcasting last month.

And apparently, the Philippines is among the most frequent Survivor locations, aside from Malaysia, Dominican Republic, and Panama. Palawan became the site for the Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and the Dutch/Belgian versions. Meanwhile, the third season of the Japanese version was done in Siquijor.

Watch the introduction after the jump.
